The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) urges motorists to be prepared before for summer road trips. The NHTSA wants motorists to take precautions before hitting the road. Make sure your car is properly equipped to tackle the roadways this summer.
Pre-Trip Maintenance
Before hitting the road, make sure your car is ready. Being stranded is the quickest way to ruin a fun family trip. Regular maintenance ensures your car is roadworthy. It may be necessary to get a tune up, oil change, battery check and tire rotation before leaving. Check your tires and be sure all lights, such as headlights and turn signals are functioning properly. Honk your horn and check your mirrors. See if there are any loose or dangling items under your chassis or drips and spills accumulating. Be sure to check all your cars fluids such as motor oil and wiper fluid. If you’re not sure, speak with a mechanic.
Summer Safety When Driving
Practice safe driving habits, this summer and all year long. Make a commitment to distraction-free driving, Buckle seat belts and observe “Move Over” laws. Make sure children are secured in age and size appropriate car seats.
